본문 Ⅰ. Introduction 1) Location Russia is
located in the north Eurasia continent (Far East Asia ~ Europe). Russia is the
largest country in the world which is about 1/8 of the world’s land area.
Because of this huge territory, there is an 11-hour time difference between East
and West. 2) Climate The huge territory of Russia also makes a various
climate zone. Basically, Russia has continental climate which is a climate
characterized by very long cold winter and short cool summer. An annual range
varies in different localities in a large scale. An average temperature of
winter is -10℃ and that of summer is 16℃. The severe cold of Russia winter has a
wide influence on Russian’s various activities like food, clothing and
shelter. 3) Geographical features The geography of the Russia is quite
various. While the southeast is a tough mountainous district, the northwest is
an open field. The Ural Mountains is in the middle of Russia. Also, there is
Central Siberian Plateau in the north center of Siberia which is a huge
highland.Besides, there are many rivers, streams and lakes. 4) Composition of
population According to the 2010 census, the most recent estimates indicate
that 81.5% of the population is Russian. Tatars constitute 3.8%; Ukrainians make
up 3%; Chuvash form 1.2%; Bashkir account for 0.9%; Belarusian for 0.8%;
Moldavian for 0.7%; and a wide variety of other peoples are represented in the
remaining 8.1%. 5) Ethnic Group The modern Russian is formed from two
groups, Northern and Southern, which were made up of Kriviches, Ilmen Slavs,
Radimichs, Vyatiches and Severians East Slavic tribes.The Slavs (Russians,
Ukrainians, and Belarusians), who account for about 85 percent of Russias
population, are three main ethnic groups (Altaic, Uralic, and Caucasus) and a
handful of isolated smaller groups reside within the federation.
